Spring culture of C. sativa cv. GP204 (originated from Germany) has been set up in Romania and monitored for seed production, further to be used in oil production. During the culture's monitoring, symptoms of white mould attack have been noticed. At a first glance, the symptoms were very close to an attack of S. sclerotiorum. On the attacked organs (including stems and inflorescences), there were observed stains on discolored tissue, covered with a dense vegetative mass, of white colour, with cotton texture. The affected tissue rot presents an aspect of necrotic lesion and leaves get brown and dry. The plants with specific symptoms wither and dry out. Based on morphological characteristics, the causal agent was confirmed as S. sclerotiorum. This is thought to be the first report of S. sclerotiorum on C. sativa in Romania.
