Abstract

During December 2013 and April 2014, several bottle gourd plants were collected from 5 different crop fields of the Cooch Behar District in West Bengal, India, showing mosaic and yellowing symptoms on leaves. The causal pathogen was identified as Soybean mosaic virus (SMV) based on serological and genetic analyses. This is thought to be the first report of SMV infecting bottle gourd in India.
