Agriculture makes a hugely significant contribution to Kenya’s economy – directly accounting for 26 percent of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and a further 27 percent through associations with manufacturing, distribution and other service-related sectors. It also plays a significant role in rural employment, food production and rural incomes.
Since Plantwise helped launch plant clinics in Kenya in 2010, the country has taken the initiative to its heart. The number of clinics has risen to 122, with the support of the Smallscale Horticultural Development Project (SHDP), and farmers visit from far and wide.
Kenya is also a country where the government is undergoing innovate pilots in e-extension, including those working with mobile technology from Plantwise knowledge bank.
