While only 12% of Afghanistan is arable land, agriculture is the country’s dominant industry and is thought to support 80% of the population. Its harvests range widely from cash crops such as pomegranate, grapes and apricots to subsistence crops like wheat and cereals. Conflict and political unrest, combined with a volatile climate, have led to an increasing need to develop agriculture and improve food security.
Since Plantwise began working in Afghanistan in 2012, 67 plant clinics have been set up in seven of the 34 provinces.
