Brown spot on Passion fruits

  • Plant tolerant varieties such as yellow passion fruit and its hybrids
  • Keep the field clean by collecting and disposing off fallen diseased fruits, leaves and vines.
  • Prune vines to reduce density and thereby reduce humidity within the crop. It also facilitates better air circulation, light and spray penetration and cover.
  • Monitor for the orchard regularly for the following symptoms: brown spots on the leaves often extending along the veins, and drying out in the centre and the stems.
  • Also look out for light brown spots on the fruits, which often merge, covering large areas, and produce red-brown spore masses.
  • Always wear protective clothing when handling chemicals
  • Don’t empty in drain
  • Spray with copper based fungicides (copper hydroxide) when the first symptoms are observed
  • WHO Class II: Moderately hazardous. FRAC code M1
