Abstract

P. infestans isolated from potato was inoculated as a zoospore suspension on melon pear ("pepino dulce"; S. muricatum) in Bogota, Colombia. P. infestans re-isolated from melon pear was inoculated on potato, causing late blight. Potato and melon pear were planted together in the field, both becoming naturally infected with P. infestans. Both melon pear leaves and fruits were damaged. This constitutes a new record for melon pear as a host of P. infestans.
