Symptoms
T. aurantii lives in often dense colonies on the undersides of young leaves and young shoots of many economically important plants, causing slight rolling, twisting or bending of the mid-rib.
Prevention and control

Biological Control

In Mediterranean France, Lysiphlebus testaceipes was introduced from Cuba to control citrus aphids including T. aurantii (Stary et al., 1988). It was released in 1973/74 in citrus groves in Antibes and also in eastern Corsica. The parasitoid was later found in Spain, in the citrus groves in Valencia in 1982 and in Castellon in 1983. The parasitoid has been reared from T. aurantii (on citrus) and has become the predominant natural enemy in the localities in which it occurs, displacing indigenous species (Stary et al., 1985).

Using the polyphagous aphidiine parasitoid Aphidius colemani, T. aurantii was controlled as part of a biological control programme in Tonga (Carver et al., 1993).

Impact
T. aurantii is an important economic pest, widely distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. Because it infests young leaves and flowers, it often affects plant growth, yield of fruit and tea, and the quality of fruit and tea when infestations are serious. At present, no attempt has been made to estimate the losses caused by this species on economic crops, as it is difficult to acquire reliable data.
